2nd comparison - from some 4 kms away

So here is the shot from my terrace towards a mountantop some 4 kilometres away. Far and fair enough, is it?

Since the Panasonic FZ-20 has inbuilt image stabilization (though probably not designed in mind with a large 1,7x teleconverter mounted on this light camera), I supported my hand against a vertical wall, when I made the shot with the D-300. The shot with the Panasonic was made without any support.

This is a crop of the Panny FZ-20 shot with the TC-E17ED at 200%.
D-300 with AFD 70-300 ED, crop at 200%.

1st comparison - 50 meters away

Here is the comparison between the TC-E17 ED mounted on a Panasonic FZ20 and the AFD 70-300 ED Nikkor on a D-300.

Both shot on "P" as is, automatic without any adjustment. I made two set of shots, one about 50 meters away, the other some 4 kilometres away.

In order not to overburden this web page with too many images, here I will publish only the first set: picture of a roof some 50 meters away and the second set separeately.

By the way: images were not processed in any way, just cropped. The crops are shown at 200%, to show as much detail as possible.

Please take note that I supported my hand against a fixed surface when shooting with the D-300 and the 70-300, but shot without any support with the Panasonic and the TC-E17ED. The Panny has inbuilt VR.

Below is a the crop of the Panasonic FZ-20+TC-E17ED's shot shown at 200%.

Above is a crop of the AFD 70-300 ED + D-300's shot at 200%.

Above is the original shot with the TC-E17ED on the Panasonic FZ-20.

The objects on the roof are larger on this image since the Panny's zoom goes to 432 mm plus the 1.7x teleconverter= 734 mm.

Above is the original shot with the 70-300 AFD ED Nikkor on a D-300.

Nikkor's 300mm x 1,5 = 450mm.

Pictures made with the TC-E17ED

For the sake of demonstration I shall publish here a few photos from my former website TCBirding including some made with Nikon's TC-E17ED teleconverter. This TC was mounted on Panasonic's FZ-20 camera.

This was the title page of the website. Note the sharp pictures.

This looked like a beatiuful black beast, but the FZ-20 was f2.8 all the way.
